Putting on a Clinic

Here’s a tip from acclaimed softball instructor, Coach Bobby Waterbury of Waterbury Fastpitch Softball.

Softball Pitching is …

• Fun! The pitcher is involved on every play.
• Responsibility! There is responsibility to be as good as we can be for ourselves and
for our parents. There is responsibility to be as good as we can be for our teammates
who are counting on our performance. There is individual responsibility to be motivated
to practice on our own, without having to be told.
• Leadership! Everyone on the field is looking at every move the pitcher makes and they
imitate what they see.
• Teamwork with our parents! Pitching works better if our parents are involved and we
accept their guidance in all that we do.

A pitcher’s most important job is to use all of the physical and mental tools that she has to get batters out.
