Toxey’s Tips for Hunting with Your Kids
Fall hunting is cranking up. It’s Mississippians’ favorite family sport. Here’s some thoughts from Toxey Haas on how to make your children’s hunting trips as rewarding as possible.
You want your children to hunt because they want to do it.
Don’t put so much emphasis on your child killing or a trophy. Conventional sports like football or baseball are results-oriented and good ways for youth to learn about life; but be careful that hunting does not become first and foremost results-oriented.
Make sure your kids are so secure in life that they understand the premise that God loves us unconditionally.
It can’t just be with words; it’s got to be with your actions. Kids pay more attention to what they see than what we say.
God builds each of us to serve something more important than ourselves. Know why God put you here. Find something more important to pursue than your own buck. See the kids God created through you as a great way to pursue a life of servitude.
The outdoors is a great place to start. SS
